Prāṇa Performing Arts is a vibrant home for professional and emerging freelance performing artists, dedicated to enriching the arts landscape while celebrating Indian traditions and culture. Founded by Pavitra Jayakanth, the company draws upon her extensive training in both traditional Indian and contemporary dance, incorporating influences from Western styles. Pavitra, a seasoned artist with extensive training in Bharatanatyam, seamlessly blends two decades of diverse dance experience. Her celebrated performances include appearances at renowned events like the American Tap Dance Festival and the Erasing Borders Indian Dance Festival at Alvin Ailey Theater. Not only a distinguished performer, but Pavitra also serves as a recognized guest panelist at Columbia and Barnard University, garnering acclaim from media outlets such as PBS, NBC, and The Guardian. Prāṇa Performing Arts aims to establish itself as a pioneering Indian classical dance ensemble, highlighted by its upcoming feature at the 2023 MODArts Dance Collective’s Move to Change Dance Festival in New York. Noteworthy past performances include engagements at the Srivari Balaji Temple Samprokshanam and the Guruvayoorappan Temple’s Vahana Festival.
